This is Day 27 of my 40 day Lenten Blog.

God also sent prophets to prophesy against Judah. The prophet Isaiah had a vision of destruction if Judah did not clean themselves of sin. The Lord said He cared little for burnt offerings. Through Isaiah, He urged the people to seek justice, correct oppression, and defend the orphan and the widows. God promised to wash them like snow if they would turn from their sins. But the Lord warned them, "Beware those who call evil good and good evil, and beware to those who are wise in their own eyes."

But Isaiah reassured the people, that even though horrible things would befall Judah, the Lord would not abandon them. "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. He shall refuse evil and choose the good." But before this child came, Isaiah said, darkness and desolation would come on the land. But God will bring the light back to them. "For onto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called 'Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.'" He will be of the root of Jesse, in other words in the House of David as God had promised David, and everyone throughout the world would seek him.

But before that time came, Judah would be conquered by Babylon. Isaiah told King Hezekiah, that a day was coming when all of his wealth would be carried off to Babylon. And it did indeed come to pass. But God promised He would deliver His people back to their land and He would completely destroy Babylon. But since Israel and Judah had both turned from the Lord and been unfaithful they would be taken from the land.

But through Isaiah God promised that His suffering servant would redeem them. "He was wounded for our transgressions, he was crushed for our sins and upon him was the chastisement that would heal us, and by his stripes, the whip marks on his back, the world would be healed. He would bear the sins of many and would make many counted as righteous by his righteousness."
